SoutronGLOBAL LMS released with new Standalone Thesaurus
Newly designed for web and managed services, SoutronGLOBAL Library Management System software is released with a new Standalone Thesaurus Management System
Derby, Derbyshire, 4th December, 2007: Soutron is a long established supplier of library automation systems for corporate and special libraries and today announces the release of a completely new brand of library system called SoutronGLOBAL Library. It is designed entirely for the web and uses Microsoft .NET and Microsoft SQL Server 2005 database technologies. It is available as a licensed product as well as a Managed Hosted Service for multi-location and multi-office libraries. In addition, Soutron has released a multi-lingual and poly-hierarchical thesaurus management tool which is integrated into SoutronGLOBAL Library and is also available as a standalone system that can be integrated into third party applications.
SoutronGLOBAL Library is the company’s first Library Management system that is completely web based and is designed for the needs of organisations operating across multiple offices or country boundaries. The multi-lingual design and features allow local catalogues to reflect local needs whilst conforming to the needs of a corporate standard. The system has been designed to appeal to clients seeking to lower the costs and overheads of their traditional library management systems, especially where they may have several different systems installed with the same or different vendors.
“The cost savings of operating a library management system globally have been proved and there are further savings when the whole system and service is outsourced” says Graham Partridge, Business Manager, Soutron Limited. “Our whole approach this year has been to invest in a data centre infrastructure and application software development to deliver systems as a service as well as licensed software”. The software has been designed very much with simplicity and streamlining workflows to remove any of the frustrations that might have been experienced when using older systems.
“When you start with a blank sheet of paper together with years of experience of delivery and supporting corporate librarians, you have a great advantage over older systems that are struggling trying to latch onto new technologies”. says Graham Beastall, Managing Director, Soutron Limited. “SoutronGLOBAL has a long and bright future ahead of it and we expect that clients will be able to take advantage of a lower cost of ownership than has previously been possible, for many years to come. We are really excited to be able to come to the market with a complete solution”.
The design of SoutronGLOBAL Library also encompasses a fully integrated thesaurus management system that is also available as a separate product, SoutronGLOBAL Thesaurus. In order to cope with the needs of a global library network it is essential to have a multi-lingual thesaurus. At the outset we decided that having it available as a separate product made sense and that it can then be integrated into any third party system. SoutronGLOBAL Thesaurus has been installed and tested in two existing client accounts and a new version will be released in Q1 2008.
“We have been careful to work with experts in the field who design and deliver thesauri for their clients when designing SoutronGLOBAL Thesaurus. As a fully web-based software product we have introduced a new price model that reflects better how people build and manage a thesaurus as well as their use in publishing it. We think that our pricing and features will be a significant improvement over current thesaurus products in the market” says Peter Amer, Sales Manager, Soutron Limited.
Soutron is seeking interested companies able to sell and support these software products in global markets.

17/04/2007: Add Greater Precision To Your Cataloguing And Indexing Using
SoutronGLOBAL© Thesaurus
SoutronGLOBAL© Thesaurus is a purpose designed thesaurus management software tool for information professionals across all types of libraries. It has been designed and developed by Soutron Limited who will offer it to special libraries where the need for accurate and controlled vocabulary is important to users and acts as a useful aid to searching and navigation of terms.
SoutronGLOBAL© Thesaurus helps the cataloguer develop a structured thesaurus to improve control over words and phrases. It is especially beneficial for those with multi-lingual needs as a result of being able to search in one language and see appropriate terms in another language. It is easy to implement alongside existing applications and the new SoutronGLOBAL© Thesaurus perfectly complements the Inmagic® Genie Library Management system that Soutron Limited sells and supports in the UK and Ireland.
“We developed the thesaurus as an integrated facility for use with a Global Library Management System being developed. We expanded the design brief to make it possible for us to integrate it with any Library Management System as well as operate completely standalone.” says Graham Partridge, Business and Development Manager for Soutron Limited. “We are particularly pleased to have achieved a screen design and interface that is very easy to follow and yet brings all the power needed to the cataloguer, with very fast performance even with large data sets”.
“This is the first software product that we have commercially released using the SoutronGLOBAL technology that we are building using Microsoft .NET tools. The software is already in use by one well known European organisation that uses Inmagic® Genie and is installed in a Global Law Firm as their thesaurus control tool so it has had a rigorous test period and is now ready for commercial release.”
SoutronGLOBAL© Thesaurus can be licensed for use either as a standalone product or as a component within a complete system. Pricing starts at £1950 for a single server licence.
Soutron Limited was established in 1989 to serve special corporate libraries and continues to develop library management system solutions as its main focus today. The company is based in Derby, United Kingdom the home of world-class engineering.
